1. It will take longer than you think.
If you have a small one bedroom unit then leave a couple of weeks whereas if
you have a large 4 bedroom house then we recommend to leave a couple of months.
2. Buy your Boxes, Bubble Wrap, taps and other moving supplies
Give us a call to see what you will need and you can either come over and pick
up or we can deliver whenever you like.
3. Start packing the rooms and things you don’t use much.
The garden equipment, stuff in your garage, closet storage items and the like
is what you want to be packing first with you essential kitchen and bathroom
items last. If possible pack each room at the same time for easy labelling and
itemisation.
4. Get rid of the rubbish and sell what you don’t want.
It’s time to spring clean as you pack so throw away all the rubbish you’ve
accumulated and consider selling your unwanted items online or in a garage
sale.
5. Heavy things in small boxes and light things in big boxes.
Put your books and bars of gold in the smaller square 2ply boxes so they don’t
break and put your clothes, kitchen items and lighter goods into the larger
rectangle boxes remembering never to go over 30kg in weight.
6. Use Packing Paper and Bubble Wrap as fillers.
If you have gaps you must stuff them full with paper or bubble wrap so there is
no movement within the box. Movement will cause breakage and so it is vital
that all items are well wrapped and solidly placed within the box.
7. Good labelling saves time and hassle.
Label each room’s set of boxes with a different colour or number so as to
clearly identify them and also put your labels at the top, bottom and all sides
of the box. A small sticker with the box colour or number and a list of the
items is easiest and you can prewrite and stick on the boxes as you go.
8. Do NOT pack hazardous or
dangerous items.
Chemicals, liquids, batteries, weapons, biological experiments, etc. are never
a good idea to pack and transport with regular boxes and will often end it
tears or worse and so it’s recommended that you pack these items separately in
safety boxes that are well labelled and transported separately.
Hopefully this small guide helps your next move go a little more smoothly.
